Sypnosis

In the powerful drama Nine Lives from Rodrigo García, the movie chronicles the lives of nine everday women and the very relationships that define and sustain them in dramatic short films compiled together under one title. Characters intertwine and they meet the travails and disappointments of life.

Holly can't seem to move forward until her stepfather acknowledges the pain he has caused her. Sandra is locked-up in prison and wants desperately to connect with her visiting child. Diana confronts the sudden flash of a past relationship, long after she has moved on to a new life. Sonia reels from her boyfriend's disclosure of an intimate secret to their closest friends. Teenager Samantha is caught in a static loop as the peacemaker between her parents. Lorna attempts to comfort her ex-husband after his wife's suicide and finds herself implicated in the tragic death. Ruth considers straying from married life during a motel rendezvous. Camille faces the limitations of her previously dependable body. Maggie allows her own life to be eclipsed by that of her young daughter, Maria.

About her role:
Sydney plays Vanessa, she appears in the segment of the woman Holly, who is her sister. Although Sydney's role is very small (the film is made up by short films) she has great chemistry with her co-star Lisa Gay Hamilton. Lisa is nothing of sensational playing this bruised and abused woman, trying to come to grips with confronting the man who caused her so much pain; her father. There is a lot of resentment to Vanessa's character, clearly showing that she was not the subject of abuse. I found Holly's segment to be one of the most powerful and you can see why Sydney would jump at the chance to have played any character in this short. Ultimately what makes Nine Lives truly special and shows all the actresses talent is the fact that it's done in real time and "non-cutaway" shots. The subject matter might be to heavy for some, but if you can get into these types of films you really should not pass this one up!
